Kicking off the Holiday Season in Bonnyville

Nov 10, 2022 | News

BONNYVILLE – The Town of Bonnyville is starting the holiday season with a jam-packed weekend of events.

From Nov. 26 to 27, the 2022 Festival of Trees will be taking over the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre. The event will have trees available to be won through a raffle, silent auction items, online 50/50 found at Rafflebox.ca under Festival of Trees 50/50, prize raffles, Santa’s Secret Shop, and photos with Santa.

“Festival of Trees has been a staple during the Christmas season for over a decade,” explained Doreen Kushnir, Festival of Trees Coordinator. “It’s one of my favourite times of the year, to transform the Field House at the C2 with our trees and everything Christmas.”

The Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce will also be hosting their second annual Chamber Christmas Craft Show and Expo that weekend. This isn’t a regular craft show. The event promotes businesses on the new Chamber market e-commerce site, shopping local, giving back to our community, and vital community partnerships.

“The Chamber has partnered with us for Festival of Trees for years and we’re grateful for their help. Shopping local and supporting Bonnyville businesses is important to Town Council. The Chamber’s Craft Show and Expo is an amazing opportunity to check some people off your Christmas list,” Kushnir noted.

There are two new workshops being offered this year during Festival of Trees. Providence Acres Flower Farm will conduct a Wreath Workshop on Nov. 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., while Buds & Bloom will be hosting a Grinch Tree Workshop on Nov. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The always popular Festival of Wines is back again on Nov. 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Festival of Wines will look a little bit different than previous years. Attendees can enjoy their wine and learn about it at education booths. Vendors from the Chamber’s Craft and Expo will also be open for some shopping.

Proceeds from the Festival of Trees will go towards the Bonnyville Health Foundation.

“The money raised will be going towards the Foundation’s Palliative Care Fund,” detailed Kushnir. “The fund allows the local hospital to provide an improved quality of life for someone with a life-threatening condition or serious illness.”

But, that’s not all! When Santa Claus heard about all the amazing events happening, he knew this would be the perfect weekend to make a stop in Town. The Bonnyville Santa Claus Parade will make its way down main street at 5 p.m. on Nov. 26. Registration forms can be found at the Town Office or website and are due by Nov. 18.

Tickets for the Festival of Wines, Wreath Workshop, and Grinch Tree Workshop can be purchased at the Town Office at 4719 49 Ave.
