COMMUNITY STANDARDS BYLAW: Council provided second and third reading to Bylaw No. 1597-25 Community Standards Bylaw. The purpose of this bylaw is to allow for greater flexibility in managing issues arising from unsightly, vacant, and derelict properties.
LOCAL IMPROVEMENT TAX: Bylaw No. 1592-25 Local Improvement Tax for the resurfacing of a back lane received second and third reading. Local Improvement Tax will be imposed on properties adjacent to the back lane of 47 Ave., between 46 and 47 St. This Bylaw was created with the provision that the construction costs be done on a Local Improvement Tax basis and collected 20 per cent back from the owners with 80 per cent paid by the Town, in accordance with Policy No. 04-PW-040.
DELEGATION: Representatives from the Lakeland Xtreme Broncs and Bulls spoke to Council about a new event happening on May 9 and 10 in Cold Lake at the Energy Centre and made a sponsorship request. The event will feature Barrel Racing, Bull and Bronc Riding, along with a vendor market. The organizers stressed their desire to ensure this event includes the entire Lakeland and outlined their commitment to give back to both communities by involving charities and not-for-profit groups in the event. Council accepted the presentation as information and directed administration to bring the request to the April 22 Regular Meeting.
BRIEFLY: The Municipal Planning Commission approved a Side Yard Variance with conditions.
The Municipal Planning Commission also approved Development Permit 25-D0013 for the Construction of a 4-Plex, with conditions. The existing dwelling at 4509 46 St. will be demolished to accommodate the new construction.
Council directed Administration to write off roughly $2,094 for properties located in Sportsman Mobile Home Park that were demolished or moved. Administration will also look into ways of preventing similar write-offs in the future.
