RESCHEDULED MEETING: The Regular Council Meeting scheduled for April 14, 2026, has been rescheduled to 6 p.m. in Council Chambers on April 7, 2026.
CPO PROGRAM POLICY: Council approved the Community Peace Officer (CPO) Procedure Policy. The Solicitor General’s Office requires municipal CPO programs have a policy that matches their specifications. The procedure manual will be the source for most current program requirements and the ‘go to’ for day-to-day operations of new and existing CPOs.
DELEGATION: Representatives from Age Friendly Cold Lake presented to Council what their organization offers and their plans to offer programming to residents in the Town of Bonnyville. Age Friendly Cold Lake’s mission is to walk alongside older adults, supporting their independence while ensuring they feel seen, heard and valued. Originally launched in Cold Lake, their goal is to expand their services to seniors who live in the Town and MD of Bonnyville, Elk Point, and St. Paul. Some of those offerings include client directed home care, outreach program, frozen food program, the men’s shed, cycling without age, among others. Council accepted the presentation as information.
PROCLAMATIONS: Mayor Brosseau proclaimed March 26, 2026, as International Day of Social Prescribing in the Town of Bonnyville. This annual global celebration recognizes the people, organizations, and communities who make social prescribing possible. The day highlights the impact of social prescribing—an innovative and holistic approach to healthcare that helps bridge the gap between non-medical health needs and social care by connecting older adults with community-based programs that support wellbeing and enhance quality of life.
March was also proclaimed as National Social Work Month by Mayor Brosseau. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of social workers who support the well-being of individuals, families and communities. Social workers play a vital role in communities such as the Town of Bonnyville, supporting residents through times of change, hardship, and growth while advocating for equity, inclusion, and community well-being.
BRIEFLY: Amending Land Use Bylaw No. 1613-26 was provided first reading by Council. Administration was directed to advertise a public hearing date, which has been set for April 7, 2026. The amendment is the result of a request from an applicant to rezone an area currently zoned as Urban Reserve to Medium Density Residential District, which allow the development of town home residential units.
Temporary Borrowing Bylaw No. 1612-26 received all three readings from Council. The bylaw, which the Town is required to pass annually for the purpose of operating expenditure should the need arise, reflects in Town credit cards for operations purposes.
