2026 Municipal By-Election

The Town of Bonnyville will be holding a Municipal By-Election on Monday, April 20, 2026, where voters will elect one Councillor to fill the vacancy currently on Town Council. The position of Councillor is elected ‘at large,’ meaning that this elected official will represent every resident in the Town. This elected official will join the previously elected Mayor and Councillors from the 2025 General Municipal Election.

The Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) governs municipal by-elections within Alberta. It sets out rules and regulations for candidates, donors, electors, third party advertisers and election administrators that must be followed before, during and after an by-election. The Town of Bonnyville has Bylaw No. 1580-24, the Election Bylaw, which establishes rules specific to the Town of Bonnyville’s municipal election.
