PHOTO GALLERY: Emergency Preparedness Week BBQ

The Town of Bonnyville, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, and Bonnyville and District FCSS hosted an Emergency Preparedness Week BBQ on Wednesday, May 10.

Residents were invited to the free event at the Town Hall to enjoy a hot dog or hamburger and to learn about the best ways to be prepared in the event of an emergency.

TAX RATE BYLAW: The 2023 Tax Rate Bylaw passed all three readings by Council. The bylaw was prepared to process the 2023 assessments and tax notices. The Tax Rate and the 2023 Operating Budget reflect an overall municipal tax dollar increase of two per cent. The 2023 Supplementary Tax Rate Bylaw also received all three readings, which is the same as the tax rate for regular taxes that is applied to the notices that will be sent out in May.

Town of Bonnyville Responds to Provincial State of Emergency

BONNYVILLE – The Province of Alberta has declareda provincial state of emergency due to the multiple wildfires burning that have displaced more than 29,000 individuals.

Under the Emergency Management Act, declaring a state of emergency is a legal mechanism that provides the provincial government with a higher level of intergovernmental coordination, around the clock monitoring of the situation, access to emergency discretionary funds, the ability to mobilize additional supports and continue working with municipalities, organizations, and businesses to support evacuated residents.

Bonnyville RCMP Weekly Update April 28 – May 5

The Bonnyville RCMP were involved in 180 investigations between April 28 and May 5.

On April 28 at 1:00 a.m., a member of the Bonnyville RCMP pulled over a vehicle after making an illegal U-turn.  The 39-year-old driver from Ardmore was determined to have a warrant for his arrest for Driving Without Insurance and Failing to Attend Court. The male was also determined to have a suspended driver’s license.  Appropriate violation tickets were issued for Driving while Suspended and the U-Turn and the male was released on his warrant to appear in Bonnyville Court on June 6.

Town of Bonnyville Responds to Update from the Government of Canada on the Issue of Retroactive RCMP Costs

BONNYVILLE, AB – The Town of Bonnyville responded today to the federal government’s disappointing decision to pass RCMP Retroactive costs on to municipalities.

Despite months of municipal advocacy led by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), provincial-territorial associations and local leaders across Canada, the federal government has indicated in the most recent federal budget it will not be meeting the request to absorb the retroactive costs associated with the latest RCMP collective bargaining agreement.

PROCLOMATION: Deputy Mayor Kayla Blanchette declared April 21, 2023, as Lights on for AfterSchool Day in Bonnyville. Lights on AfterSchool is a province-wide initiative, which celebrates school age care programs and their role in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn, and supporting working families. AfterSchool programs build stronger communities by bringing together families, schools, and community partners to ensure the well-being of children. Town Administration will also be looking into local landmarks that can be ‘lit up’ with yellow and blue to celebrate the event.

Scheduled Garbage Collection Route Changes – Sportsman Manufactured Home Park

IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE

If you live in the above noted area, the Town of Bonnyville will be changing the day your garbage is picked up starting the week of April 18th, 2023.  Impacted residents will have household garbage collected on Tuesday April 18th, and then again on Thursday April 20th. After that time, your regular garbage collection period will remain on Thursdays.

Waste bins are to be placed out for collection no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection as per the bylaw.

The new garbage route map can also be viewed on the Town’s Website.

PROCLOMATION: Mayor Elisa Brosseau proclaimed April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day in the Town of Bonnyville. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects approximately two per cent of Albertans on the autism spectrum. ASD is now recognized as the most common neurological disorder affecting every one in 66 children in Canada, as well as their friends, family, and community. Mayor Brosseau urges all citizens and our community to ‘Light it up Blue’ on April 2 to create a more inclusive world for people with ASD.

Clean-Up Blitz

The Town of Bonnyville is looking for community groups and not for profits.

From May 8 to 12, local groups can help the Town keep our community clean and raise funds in the process.

Volunteer for a couple of hours and receive $5 a bag for collected garbage. The Town’s Public Works Department will provide bags, gloves, and a start location.

Bonnyville’s 75th Anniversary

The Town of Bonnyville hosted a Winter Festival at Pontiac Park to celebrate a significant milestone.

This year marks the 75th Anniversary since Bonnyville was incorporated as a Town.

Residents enjoyed tobogganing, wagon rides, snow painting, s’mores, hotdogs, and more to celebrate Bonnyville’s growth.
