BONNYVILLE – Town of Bonnyville Council expressed disappointment at the Feb. 27 Regular Council Meeting upon learning that the municipality’s application for funding for a new Aquatics Centre through the Government of Canada’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program had not been successful.
Planning for a new Aquatics Centre has been an ongoing project since 2018 involving Town and MD residents, Elected Officials from the Town and MD of Bonnyville, and planning staff.
Town of Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau said, “Although the federal government was not in favor of funding us at this time, we’re still exploring different avenues for funding to be put towards making a Bonnyville Aquatics Facility a reality. We know this is something our residents want and we will look at every avenue we have available to us to find funding to get a project moving ahead.”
Town Council would like residents to know this decline in funding will not leave the project dead in the water. Further updates on the Bonnyville Aquatics Centre will be made available once they are available.
