May 12, 2023 | News

The Bonnyville RCMP were involved in 181 investigations between May 5-12.

On May 6 just after 1:00 AM, a member of the Bonnyville RCMP was on patrol in the area of Highway 41 and Kehewin Cree Nation. The officer observed a vehicle with a heavily damaged windshield, and he recognized it as a vehicle he’d previously observed as having a stolen license plate affixed to it.  The member also recognized the driver.  The member attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the driver who blew through a stop sign in an effort to flee from the police.  The member later followed up with the 26-year-old from Kehewin and issued him several traffic tickets.

On May 6, the Bonnyville RCMP received a call from a residence in Kehewin Cree Nation requesting RCMP assistance to remove an individual who was intoxicated by drugs and threatening to harm the people in the house.  RCMP attended, located the suspect and lodged him until he was sober.  The 42-year-old male from Kehewin is facing charges of Mischief and Uttering Threats. He is set to appear in Court on June 27th.

On May 9 at 10:20 pm, a pickup truck was heading westbound on 43 Ave and was turning South onto 40 St. and did not see a dirt bike that was Eastbound on 43 Ave as the dirt bike had no form of lights resulting in a collision.  The driver of the dirt bike sustained serious injuries and was air lifted to an Edmonton area hospital.  The driver of the dirt bike is facing a charge under the Off Highway Vehicle Act.

Sometime overnight on May 11, an unknown culprit broke into an SUV and stole the registration and insurance papers for the vehicle.  This took place on the 4700 block of 49th Street.

BREAK & ENTERS:
On May 5 at 1:00 am and again on May 7 at 4:50 PM, a business in the industrial area of 55 Avenue was broken into.  It’s believed the same suspect is responsible for both break-ins.
On May 6, the RCMP received a report of a break-in at a vacant residence in the 4300 block of Lakeshore drive that had occurred within the two weeks previous.
Anyone with information on any of these Break and Enters is urged to contact the Bonnyville RCMP.

THEFT OF VEHICLES:

Overnight on May 7, a Ford F150 and its keys were stolen from a garage on the 4300 block of 44 Street.  On May 10 at 10:30 PM, an SUV was stolen from the parking lot of a local tire shop on 50 Ave.  The keys were left with the vehicle and the culprit was able to easily unlock, start the vehicle and drive away.  Both the F150 and SUV were located on May 11 by Edmonton Police Service (EPS).  They were parked next to each other at a location with other stolen vehicles.  EPS arrested a husband & wife in possession of the two Bonnyville vehicles and charges are pending against them.
