COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

REGULAR MEETING

FEBRUARY 27

DELEGATION: Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) Fire Chief Dan Heney gave the 2023 year in review for the local fire department, EMS, and 911. Chief Heney described 2023 as a busy year for the BRFA, including taking over the 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the City of Cold Lake, hiring of new staff members in their divisions, renovations started on their new building, and more. Although the number of calls the fire service received were down compared to 2022, Chief Heney noted the amount of time spent on the calls had increased. According to Chief Heney, EMS saw a decrease in calls as well, but this was due to staffing struggles and keeping their third ambulance staffed. There were a substantial increase in calls for 911 services.
