Bonnyville RCMP Update June 2-9

The Bonnyville RCMP were involved in 254 investigations from June 2-9.

On June 2 at noon, the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to an address on the 4700 block of 43 Ave for an unwanted male who was refusing to leave. Upon arrival, RCMP located the male and determined he was on Arrest Warrants from Edmonton and was also on release conditions from a previous arrest.  The male was arrested on the Edmonton warrants and was additionally charged with three counts of failing to comply with a release order. Tyrell Watchmaker, 22. from Kehewin Cree Nation will be in court on June 20.

On June 2 at 3:00 pm, the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a serious two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 41 and Secondary Highway 660.  The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2014 Ford Mustang was at fault for the collision, which saw one female passenger air lifted to an Edmonton area hospital for treatment of her injuries.  The 62-year-old driver from Edmonton was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Driving Carelessly, which carries a fine of $567.  He was further issued violation tickets for Driving at an Unreasonable Speed ($243 fine) and Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign ($405 fine).

The St. Paul / Vermilion Traffic Services Unit were in Bonnyville on June 2. Alongside the Bonnyville RCMP, held a check stop in Town with a focus on tinted windows, seatbelts, speeding and distracted driving.  Violation tickets for these and various other offences were issued to numerous motorists.

On June 4 at 9:30 am, the Bonnyville RCMP received a 911 dispatch of a man walking in a back alley in the 5400 block of 51 Avenue who was carrying what appeared to be a long gun.  The members on duty attended and immediately located the suspect who was attempting to conceal two weapons, a knife and a bat, while resisting arrest. Kelsey Lessard, 37, of Bonnyville was taken into custody and charged with Resisting Arrest, two counts of Carrying a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and two counts of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.  He was remanded during a Bail Hearing and his first appearance was June 6 at which time he plead guilty and sentenced to jail time in the form of time served while remanded.

One June 6, the Bonnyville RCMP fielded an assistance request from the Probation Office for a male that had breached his Probation and for which they had charged him for three counts and issued an Arrest Warrant.  The Bonnyville RCMP located and arrested 36-year-old Christopher Lepine of Bonnyville.  He was held for a Bail Hearing and will appear in court for his Probation matters on June 13.

On June 6 at 4:00 pm, a member of the Bonnyville RCMP was on patrol on 50 Ave and observed a blue Jeep Renegade SUV with a female driver and 3 passengers.  The member recalled an SUV with that same description had been involved in a crime in Cold Lake the day before.  A check of the vehicle revealed it was stolen. Upon closer inspection, the Jeep was originally orange when it had been stolen but the culprit had spray painted it blue. After the female driver was arrested, meth and weapons including a baton and bear spray were located in the vehicle as well as two loaded needles. Jennifer Fiddler, 44, of Cold Lake was on a release document from a previous arrest that included conditions of not to be in possession of any weapons and not be inside a motor vehicle without the registered owner.  She is charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with Release Conditions, Driving While Suspended, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000 and Possession of Meth.  A bail hearing was held and Fiddler was remanded into custody.  Her first appearance is set for June 12.
