Bonnyville, Alta. – This holiday season, the Bonnyville RCMP is wishing everyone a #DecemberToRemember!
We want to ensure that Albertans are enjoying this festive time of year while also staying safe. This December, remember the following:
The Grinch isn’t the only one stealing this Christmas…
- When holiday shopping, never leave valuables visible inside your vehicle.
- Consider having deliveries sent to the store or post office so they won’t be left unattended on your porch.
- Never leave your vehicle idling with the keys inside.
For the snowbirds…
- Always make sure to secure your home, garage, and property before leaving on a trip.
- Make arrangements for your mail; either have someone you trust stop by and collect it, or arrange to have it paused while you’re away.
- If possible, install motion sensor lights and security cameras on your property.
Don’t get Scrooged by a scammer…
- If you are buying or selling something through online market places, make sure you meet somewhere safe for all exchanges and transactions like a police detachment.
- Always be mindful about the personal information you post online. Scammers can use that information to trick you.
- If you’re in doubt as to whether or not something is a scam, contact your local police for assistance.
When decking the halls…
- Make sure your decorations do not obstruct your view outside of your home.
- Clear walkways and driveways of any decorations.
- Ensure your decorations remain on your property.
