Bonnyville RCMP Update August 11-18

The Bonnyville RCMP were involved in 200 investigations between August 11-18.

On August 11 at 7:00 PM, the Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a male biking through field, hiding his bicycle, climbing a fence, and breaking into the yard of a business along highway 660 between Range Road 453 and 454. The RCMP attended, located and arrested the male who was found to have methamphetamine in his possession. Robert Woods, 46, of Minburn, Alberta is charged with Breaking & Entering a Business and Possession of Methamphetamine. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace who released him to appear in court on September 5.

On August 14, just after midnight, the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 37 Street and 49 Avenue where a southbound vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and collided in t-bone fashion with an eastbound vehicle. RCMP attended and assessed the scene where minor injuries were sustained by the passenger in the offending vehicle. The 20-year-old driver of the offending vehicle from Cold Lake was issued a traffic ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign which carries a fine of $405.

On August 14 at 6:30 PM, a male youth was walking along Railway Avenue in Glendon when another male youth ran up to him and unprovoked started assaulting the male in the face and head. RCMP were called to the scene and further located the suspect at his residence. The 17-year-old male from Glendon was arrested and charged with Assault. He was released on paperwork compelling him to court on October 17. 

On August 15, the RCMP were dispatched to the old post office on 50 Ave as there was a report of two males climbing on to the roof. RCMP arrived on scene and located one male as he was climbing back down off of the roof and the other was still up on the roof.  A 33-year-old male and a 36-year-old male, both from Bonnyville, were charged with Trespassing under the Trespass to Premises Act which carries a fine of $600.

On August 16 at 9:00 PM, the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a complaint about intoxicated males sitting and laying on the sidewalk in front of a main street business. RCMP attended and located the intoxicated males who were now in front of another business bothering customers. A 36-year-old male from Bonnyville and 70-year-old male from Kehewin Cree Nation were arrested and lodged in cells until they were sober. The 36-year-old male was also charged under the Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Act.

On August 16 at 10:00 PM, the Bonnyville RCMP received a report of an assault that had just taken place at an apartment building on the 4100 block of 43 Avenue in Bonnyville. RCMP attended and the investigation led them to the suspect who was located nearby. Ashton John, 31 of Kehewin Cree Nation was arrested and charged with Assault. It was further determined that John had a Warrant for his arrest for an unrelated matter out of Cold Lake. Furthermore, John was serving a Conditional Sentence Order whereby he was to abide by conditions including a curfew, not to consume alcohol and to always carry a copy of his Conditional Sentence Order on him. Upon his arrest, John was breaching his curfew, was intoxicated and did not have a copy of the Order. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace for a bail hearing and was remanded to stay in custody. His first court appearance is scheduled for August 22.

On August 17 at 4:20 PM, the Bonnyville RCMP received a call from a homeowner who advised he was out of town but could see on his home security system that someone was breaking into his house. RCMP attended immediately, surrounded the house and caught the suspect as he was trying to exit the residence holding a pop and some food. The 18-year-old male from Kehewin Cree Nation has been charged with Breaking & Entering and was released on paperwork to appear in court on October 17.
