Bonnyville RCMP Update Aug. 25 to Sept. 1

Sep 1, 2023 | News

To kick of this week’s media release, S/Sgt. Parke would like to remind motorists that school is back in session and school zones are back in effect. It’s important for motorists to slow down when traveling through school zones. It’s equally important for pedestrian students to remain vigilant when walking, whether it be walking to school from home or just getting off the bus and walking from there. Ideally pedestrians should make eye contact with motorists approaching a crosswalk. Just because the pedestrian has the right of way doesn’t mean a vehicle may not still drive through a crosswalk. Everyone has a part to play in pedestrian safety.

Bonnyville RCMP were involved in 183 investigations between August 25 and September 1.

On August 28 at 5:00 PM, Bonnyville RCMP received a report a male in a grocery store parking lot trying door handles, panhandling, and disturbing customers. Members attended and found the suspect who was intoxicated. The 36-year-old male from Bonnyville was arrested and held in custody until he was sober. Upon his release, he was issued a violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor & Cannabis Act.

On August 29 at 8:30 PM, the Bonnyville RCMP were called to tend to an intoxicated male passed out on the ground outside a local convenience store. Members attended and arrested the 70-year-old male from Kehewin Cree Nation and held him until he was sober. When released he was issued a violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor & Cannabis Act.

On August 30 at 1:30 AM, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a local hotel where the staff were reporting an intoxicated male had passed out in front of the hotel. A member attended, located the male and arrested him. He remained in custody until sober and the 32-year-old male from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan was issued a violation ticket under the Gaming Liquor & Cannabis Act upon his release.

On August 30 just after midnight, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Kehewin Cree Nation for a violent fight involving a stabbing between two males known to each other. RCMP attended and tended to both males who were transported to different hospitals where they were both treated for their injuries and released. The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending against both males.
