Delegation Request to Council

Residents, business owners, and community groups may request to speak directly to Town of Bonnyville Municipal Council at one of their regularly scheduled meetings by submitting a Delegation Application.

Delegations provide an opportunity to present information, request action, or update Council on projects, programs, or community issues. If you are requesting financial support from the Town, a completed application from the Grants and Funding program is required. Delegation FAQs

What is a Delegation? A Delegation is an opportunity to step forward, be heard, and bring your perspective directly to decision-makers.

Who can apply to make a Delegation to Town Council?  Town of Bonnyville residents, business owners, and representatives from local organizations.

How long is my Delegation permitted to be? Please ensure your presentation is no longer than 15 minutes, including allowing time for questions from Council.

How many speakers are permitted during a Delegation? There can be a maximum of two presenters.

What are the submission requirements to make a Delegation to Town Council? In order to make a Delegation to Town Council, interested parties must submit a Delegation Application form to . Supporting materials, such as reports or documents or copies of any presentation slides, must be included with the Delegation Application.

If you are requesting funding from the Town, you must submit a completed application through the appropriate Grants and Funding program. A full list of available grants and funding opportunities can be found here.

Once approval is received, electronic presentations must be submitted to Town Administration by the Wednesday prior to the Council Meeting. 

Why would my Delegation Application be declined? Delegations will not be heard if they are about a matter that is currently before the courts, Council has authorized legal action on the issue, or the topic relates to an official Community Plan or Zoning Amendment Bylaw that has already gone to Public Hearing.

Approval is based on the discretion of the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). 

When will Council make a decision about my Delegation? Decisions are not typically made immediately.  Town Council may require time to review the information given or to deliberate the subject further. Once a decision is made, you will be contacted by the Town.

Tips for a Successful Delegation

To help ensure a productive presentation:

  • Be clear and consistent in your message
  • Respect time limits and meeting procedures
  • Be prepared to answer questions from Council
  • Clearly state any requested support or desired outcome
  • Understand that follow-up may be required

  • You will be invited forward to present to Council
  • You will have up to 15 minutes total, including questions
  • Council may ask for clarification or additional information
  • Decisions are not typically made immediately – Council may require time to review or deliberate
