Regular Meeting July 12

DELEGATION: Bonnyville Search and Rescue President Andrew Nickless made a presentation to Council about the local organization. The Bonnyville chapter was established in 1998 and currently has 14 volunteer members. They serve the same boundaries as the Bonnyville RCMP does, which includes the Town, MD of Bonnyville, Kehewin Cree Nation, Village of Glendon, and all of the areas in between. Nickless’ told Council Search and Rescue’s core function is the search and rescue of anyone who is lost, injured, or killed while in any rural or urban environment. Members can train up to 200 hrs on an average year and respond to three to four calls a year.

DONATIONS: There were a couple of donations approved by Council during the meeting. The first was a bronze sponsorship for $250 to Premier Academy Bonnyville to assist Team Xplosion with the costs for their trip to Orlando, FL. The team is competing in the All-Star Worlds Competition and requested financial assistance from the Town as the average cost per athlete is roughly $3,500. The second request will see a $2,500 bronze sponsorship going towards the Bonnyville Health Foundation’s Healthcare Appreciation Luncheon. The luncheon will see upwards of 350 local healthcare workers in attendance. The funds will be reallocated from the Hospital Gala 2022 budget as the gala didn’t happen this year.
