MUNICIPAL PLANNING COMMISSION: Development Permit 26-D0026 was approved, with conditions, by the Municipal Planning Commission. The application requested a variance to the minimum clearance requirement beneath a freestanding sign.
LETTER OF SUPPORT: Council approved providing a letter of support to the provincial government urging participation in the federal temporary increase to 15 per cent Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) cap for rural communities and to advocate for exemptions for municipalities with populations under 10,000. The federal government made recent changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program for low wage positions and reduced the cap from 20 per cent to 10 per cent on the those that can be hired in low-wage positions in specific work locations. While the cap was meant to ensure that Canadians or permanent residents are considered first for available jobs, it has created significant challenges in rural and northern communities.
