Regional Waterline Receives Funding to Explore Extension to Glendon

Jun 4, 2025 | News

GLENDON – The Village of Glendon may soon tap into the regional waterline.

The Bonnyville Regional Water Services Commission was informed by the Government of Alberta that the Regional Waterline Extension (Phase 2) will receive a grant through the Transportation and Economic Corridors’ Water for Life program in the amount of $1,039,468.50.

“This investment of over $1 million into engineering of Phase 2 of the Bonnyville Regional Waterline Extension is a crucial step toward bringing clean, clear drinking water from Bonnyville to Glendon – and to many families, farms, and communities along the route,” said Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul MLA Scott Cyr. “Reliable water infrastructure is foundation for healthy communities, and this project reflects the Government of Alberta’s ongoing commitment to supporting rural regions. I want to thank Minister Devin Dreeshen and the Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors for recognizing the importance of this initiative.”

The funds would go towards the engineering component of extending the Cold Lake-Bonnyville regional waterline to include the Village of Glendon.

Bonnyville Regional Water Services Commission Board Chair Brian McEvoy expressed his appreciation for the funding allocation.

“We’re very encouraged by the support of the provincial government in expanding services in the Lakeland region,” he said.

Village of Glendon Mayor Nick Werstiuk agreed, “We appreciate the provincial support and collaboration from our neighbouring municipalities. This funding is a positive step toward exploring the integration of Glendon into the regional waterline system.”

The Bonnyville Regional Water Services Commission were provided a $100,000 Water for Life program grant in 2024 to conduct a feasibility study of extending the Cold Lake waterline from Bonnyville to Glendon. The project was deemed feasible and the commission was successful in their bid for money for engineering study to move ahead with the next phase of the expansion.
