Bonnyville Business Taps into Town’s Incentive Program

BONNYVILLE – A hometown contractor just nailed it – using the Town of Bonnyville’s housing incentive program to grow their business and invest in the community.

Blocha Contracting Ltd. is the first local contracting company to take advantage of the Town’s Single-Family Home Builders Incentive. This program gives $25,000 to single-family home builders for each new home they construct in Town.

“This is what economic development looks like in action,” said Mayor Elisa Brosseau. “Supporting a local contractor through our incentive program shows the Town is committed to creating real opportunities for growth – right in Bonnyville.”

Town of Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau presents a cheque to Tyler Blocha with Blocha Contracting Ltd. Blocha Contracting was the first business to take advantage of the Town's new Housing Incentives. This housing incentive, along with the Single-Family New Homeowners and Multi-Family Dwelling incentive programs, were created by Town Council to encourage growth and investment in Bonnyville. As a result of Bonnyville’s roughly 14 per cent growth since 2020 that has significantly reduced homes available for purchase and rental properties available to rent.

New homeowners buying a newly-built single-family home will benefit from municipal property tax reductions—100% in the first three years, 75% in year four, and 50% in year five. Builders of multi-family dwellings will also receive $10,000 per unit built.

The Housing Incentive Program has a maximum budget of $500,000. It is done on a first-come, first-served basis. Council will look at the program each Budget Season.
