Bonnyville 4-H District Show & Sale

Jul 16, 2024 | News

The Bonnyville 4-H District Beef Show and Sale is a heartwarming event that brings together the communities of Bonnyville, Ardmore, and Beaver River. Held annually at the Bonnyville Agricultural Society grounds, this event showcases the hard work and dedication of young 4-H members who groom and present their cattle for the show ring.

The day begins with an opening ceremony where the kids stand behind their club banners for a land acknowledgment, the national anthem, and the 4-H pledge. This year, they welcomed two horse clubs, the Lakeland Long Riders and Iron River Wranglers, who joined in the festivities. Despite the wild Lakeland winds, the riders showcased resilience and determination.

Reeve Barry Kalinski and Town of Bonnyville Coun. Brian McEvoy participated in the opening ceremony, emphasizing their support for the kids and the future of agriculture in the region. The event also featured an auction, where both local businesses and individuals bid on cattle. Notably, the Town of Bonnyville purchased a steer and donated the meat to local non-profits, including the Hive, Lakeland FASD, Native Rehab Centre, Dove Centre, Seniors Drop-In, Daycare, and Heart to Heart.

Additionally, before the sale began, attendees had the opportunity to bid on three Connecting Communities auction items, raising $1,550 for the Bonnyville and Cold Lake food banks.
