COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

REGULAR MEETING

JUNE 27

RURAL RENEWAL STREAM PROGRAM APPLICATION: Council approved the submission of an application to the Government of Alberta’s Rural Renewal Immigration Stream (RRS). This program supports the attraction and retention of newcomers to rural Alberta through a community driven approach that supports local economic development needs and contributes to the growth of the community. The RRS addresses current labour needs and skills shortages in rural Alberta communities and helps newcomers settle into the community. This stream requires a community to apply to the provincial government for a community designation. Once designated, the community then works with employers to attract, recruit, and retain newcomers by sharing information on settlement supports.

SPONSORSHIP REQUEST: Council approved a $3,500 Gold Level Sponsorship for the Dragonfly Centre’s First Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Funds raised from this event would be used to continue to offer free counselling and support services to survivors of sexual violence.

BRIEFLY: All three readings were provided to Bylaw No. 1550-23 – Emergency Management Bylaw.

A letter of support was provided for the Bonnyville Tuneagers for their Alberta Community Initiatives Program (CIP) grant application. If successful, CIP funds will be used for the annual Christmas Choir Fest 2023 event being held in the Town of Bonnyville.
