Old St. Nick is coming to the Town of Bonnyville

BONNYVILLE – Here comes, Santa Claus, right to the C2.

Old St. Nick will be making two stops in the Town of Bonnyville. Once on Christmas Eve and the other time for the Bonnyville Santa Clause Parade on Friday, Dec. 10.

The parade is going to look a little bit different this year. It’s going to be done in a line-up along the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be tasty Christmas treats along with a surprise that will be waiting for families at the end of the parade.

“It was important to us to ensure that Santa was able to make a visit to Bonnyville to visit all of the good boys and girls and for him to do so safely,” explained parade organizer Doreen Kushnir.

Santa won’t be the only one waving. Registration for floats is officially open and the deadline to submit your registration form is Dec. 2.

“We invite organizations, groups, sports teams, schools, and families to make this parade a success,” exclaimed Kushnir. “Register a float and take part in this exciting community event!”

Forms can be dropped off at the Town of Bonnyville Administration office, faxed to 780-826-4806, or emailed to recreation@town.bonnyville.ab.ca.

“Due to the parade happening at night, we always encourage those participating to put lots of lights on their floats,” Kushnir noted.

Float and parade participants will line up along the west side of the Centennial Centre, up to the back of the Field House. Each group will be socially distanced from each other, and we ask that you remain in your section for the duration of the parade. The end of the parade will be extended if needed.

There is no charge to enter the parade nor will families be charged to drive by. Participants cannot throw candy, however, handouts are acceptable.

Kushnir encouraged everyone to participate in the event and to swing by on Dec. 10 to see Santa Claus.

“We’re excited for Santa to come back to town and, hopefully, everyone else is too,” she added.

Santa’s helpers will be handing out candy canes and hot chocolate at the end of the route. They will also be accepting toy donations for Santa’s Elves and non-perishable food items for the Bonnyville food bank.

The Bonnyville Santa Claus Parade is going ahead following the current provincial COVID-19 regulations. If these change, the event may be cancelled as a result.
