Citizens of Bonnyville are advised that a Special meeting of Bonnyville Town Council is scheduled for May 21, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Town Office Council Chambers.

Residents of the Town of Bonnyville are notified Town Council has cancelled their Regular Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

The next Regular Council Meeting date will be announced soon.

Council Highlights April 9 & 23

BUDGETS: Council approved the 2024 Final Operating and Capital Budgets. The balanced 2024 Operating Budget is $31,325,357. It includes a two per cent municipal tax increase, which equals a total municipal tax revenue of roughly $8,442,130. The School Tax Requisition has decreased by $9,385. This results in an increase in actual school tax for Residential Properties of 4.14 per cent and a decrease in actual school tax for Non-Residential properties of 5.01 per cent. There is a also a slight decrease in the Seniors Requsition on both residential and non-residential properties. Changes of note in the Final Operating Budget compared to the Interim Operating Budget include a decrease in grants to organizations as the Bonnyville Friendship Centre doesn’t require funding for the men’s shelter in 2024, addition of funds transferred from reserve to cover the RCMP COLA invoice, increase in revenue and expense to complete the Town’s Emergency Management Plan, and more. The 2024 Capital Budget is balanced at roughly $22,048,085. Future Grant Revenue is anticipated to be $1,436,053 per year (includes Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF) and Canada Community Building Fund (CCBF). Total revenue for Capital Projects for 2024 is anticipated to be $22,048085. This includes Grant Funding, Transfers from Reserve Debenture Funding (this will be from a future debenture), Local Improvement Tax (LIT) Revenue, Other Revenue and Prior Years Grant funding.

Bonnyville RCMP Update April 10-17

On April 10th, 2024, Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a break and enter into a business in Bonnyville, located on 46 St. The suspect entered an outbuilding on the property and stole numerous piece of sporting equipment and speakers.

Council Highlights March 26

DELEGATION: A representative from Accurate Assessment Group Ltd. made a delegation to Council about the previous year’s property assessments. A property assessment is the process of assigning a dollar value to a property for taxation purposes. Bonnyville’s assessments went down by roughly two per cent in 2023 when compared to 2022. Residential assessment saw a two per cent dip and non-residential dropped by roughly three per cent. Both Linear/DIP and farmland saw increases, while exempt properties saw a decrease. Residents who have concerns with their assessments will have the opportunity to attend an open house with Accurate Assessment Group Ltd.
