Regular Meeting July 12

DELEGATION: Bonnyville Search and Rescue President Andrew Nickless made a presentation to Council about the local organization. The Bonnyville chapter was established in 1998 and currently has 14 volunteer members. They serve the same boundaries as the Bonnyville RCMP does, which includes the Town, MD of Bonnyville, Kehewin Cree Nation, Village of Glendon, and all of the areas in between. Nickless’ told Council Search and Rescue’s core function is the search and rescue of anyone who is lost, injured, or killed while in any rural or urban environment. Members can train up to 200 hrs on an average year and respond to three to four calls a year.

All the Buzz About Beekeeping

BONNYVILLE – There was a lot more buzz in the Town of Bonnyville thanks to a local resident who brought her passion for urban bee keeping to the area.

Donna Busque is currently the only Bonnyvillian to receive approval from the Town to install one beehive on her property. She also had two located within the MD of Bonnyville that she keeps an eye on.

“My primary interest in bees is how they function as an organism,” Busque explained. “The reason I wanted bees in my yard was so that I could observe them on a regular basis.”

Although Busque has been beekeeping for four years, she lost her hives last year due to the winter being very hard on honeybees.

Local Food Infrastructure Fund

The Local Food Instructor Fund is a five-year, $60 million initiative ending March 31, 2024.

It was created as part of the Government of Canada’s Food Policy for a healthier and more sustainable food system in Canada. The LFIF is aimed at community-based, not-for-profit organizations with a mission to reduce food insecurity by establishing and strengthening their local food system.

Applications are due by July 15, 2022.
